Centennial Farm @ OC Fairgrounds

Next time you grab a bite at Native Foods in Costa Mesa, stop by Centennial Farm. (South on Bristol, Right on Newport Blvd, Right onto Fair Drive) That's only 1.52 miles away, with an estimated drive time of 3 minutes. And, it's free, so just walk in and stay as long as you'd like. You'll be happy you decided to visit this exemplar farm, complete with a big red barn, beautifully tended gardens, and all kinds of animals that are well cared for.

If there's any left, you can buy the pick of the day. They lay the produce out and you pay with an honor system donation.

There are several of these photo opportunities throughout the farm. After visiting countless times, we still can't resist them.

Pile of baby goats

Ba, ba, baby black sheep...

Piglets

And.... The pigs got restless at dinner time. The mama above, and her friend somehow managed to get up on the fence and proceed to oink very loudly. They were accompanied by the sheep, who were equally vocal & persistent. It was quite exciting to hear the animals speak up for themselves.

This photo deserves a caption! Have any in mind?

Oh, great photos, Vicki!! I so want to go there. Your kids must have had the BEST time... and you and Art as well - the "big kids" that you are!

A caption for that photo...
hmmmmm...

"Wait for us!!"

"Did somebody say they needed a translator for Pig Latin? Here i come!"

"I hear Miss Piggy's on the way! Get Kermit, STAT!"

A place with well cared for animals is a place i want to visit...

That looks like such a cool place to visit! I love all the photos of the kids and animals! I am rubbish at captions, but I like Kleopatra’s “Wait for us!”.

Hi Vicki! Thanks for the pressure (and the quote), you're right, I need to get my butt in gear and post! I have been reading your wonderful blog (and everyone else's), just have had a lot of major stuff going on... Killian was really sick last week, he's better now and back to his freaky cute self, thanks for asking.

Love this post of the animals by the way!

Oh, and I'm seeing Al Gore on Monday at Gammage here in town.

HOW? How did I live in the OC for over 3 years and never go to this cute place? (Bazu starts crying)

I love these photos- I have a love verging on an obsession for farm animals. Guess it's because they're so cute and we rarely get to interact with them. I hope to visit Farm Sanctuary in the next few days (if the weather cooperates.)

Hmmm, a caption for the last photo...

"Just snortin' the breeze"

Caption idea:

Pig 1: "Have you read Orwell's new one?"

Pig 2: "1984? Nah..."

What a fun place to visit! I love how the animals look so well cared for. It reminds me of a great farm out in Washington that we used to go to all the time!

I love the honour system of picking your own produce too! (If anything is left, that is!)

Your girls are so cute, as always!!

"The service in this place is terrible. You can forget about your tip."

I love the photos of the baby animals. So so so cute!! I'm partial to goats. I would love to visit this place. REALLY!! If I ever find myself in Costa Mesa, I will make a point of going.

pigs can be VEEEEERY scarily vocal when they are hungry. when i used to volunteer at the farm sanctuary or animal place, it was almost unsettling...it only made me imagine what it must be like at a dreaded factory. how could anyone work there? HOW!

i loved the pile of baby goats. i could smoosh them!

i'll go smoosh kody instead...

cute pix of your chitlin's too. and i'm gardening today in fact...yay@!

I'm with Bazu! How did I live in OC for so long and never visit. I'm always up for a visit with farm animals. We're going back at the end of April and I'm stopping by there for sure!
