3 Product Reviews & Encouraging Global Warming News!

I haven't been cooking much lately, and it really shows in my posts! But getting back into blog surfing sure brings on the cooking inspiration, and my list is growing. I was actually inspired this morning reading my local newspaper. I saw a recipe for 'Tempeh, Lettuce and Tomato Sandwiches' and nearly fell off my chair when I saw that it was a Fatfree Vegan Kitchen recipe! How cool is that? Did you see this in your paper? Susan said it ran in several. These cookies were OK.

This is one of our all-time favorite prepared faux meats. Since striving to be vegan, it has been a sore spot that this product was only vegetarian.

Last time I was at the Co-op, I noticed the subtle difference in the packaging.
Vegetarian Plus has veganized its 'Citrus Sparerib Cutlets' ! Here's the tip: only cook this for 7-8 minutes, otherwise the sauce get overcooked too easily and is too sticky, add pineapple for a treat!

Now here's some encouraging news! Art sent me a text this morning that read, "new study out today eat less meat helps global warming, on ktla.com and ktla today."
And just last night, I even heard Leno joking about the meat industry connection to global warming. It's happening! People are taking note of the negative impact of the meat industry on the world. This information will only empower people. You can fight global warming every time you eat. Now where have I heard that before?? Oh, and the girls didn't really like these nuggets.

Hey Vicki!
I haven't stumbled on any of the products you reviewed, but now that I've read this, I hope to!
And that is so great about the possibility that people are making the meat/factory farming/global warming connection. We need to keep working to make it a cultural meme! The first step, I think, is for most people to realize that factory farming even happens. I think most people really think the cows and chickens they eat lived idyllic bucolic lives (like those cows in those damn cheese commercials). Once the reality of factory farming sets in, I honestly believe the rest will fall into place for most people.

I totally agree that it's starting to catch on, my fiance got his U of Chicago alumni magazine yesterday and they had a whole article on it! They said the closer you are to a vegan diet, the more you are doing to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Yay!

Love your(?) toes peeking out in the picture. I tried that same brand of chicken patties as the nuggets and was not pleased either...

nice to know the # of vegan grocery options continues to increase--and that the real word is getting out about how good for the planet veganism is

it's definitely reassuring that more people are beginning to realize the effects of their diets on the environment - hopefully more vegans will emerge in our society!!

I haven't tried any of those products, but have seen them in stores - doesn't look like I'll be purchasing the nuggets :0)

My DDs will love your blog, so I'm going to link it. I don't want to lose track of it either! Thanks for the product reviews, too.

Great to hear word is getting out about the meat-eating/global-warming connection. It's my feeling that awareness is growing here too. And those vegan ribs look pretty tasty!

I tagged you for a meme, Vicki--one that's going around the blogs at the moment. Hope you don't mind--no obligations, but for me it was fun and I always love reading what others write for these things.

Wow- How awesome that Susan's recipe got put in the paper. Go Veganism!

At the deli I worked at in my co-op we sold those citrus spare ribs as well as the other vegetarian plus products. The spare ribs were by far our biggest seller and it was so funny when meat eaters didn't even know that it wasn't real meat! Some people had been eating them for awhile before they learned it was vegan! (Although I still haven't tried them!)

Hey that's awesome news about global warming and publicity about meatless diets. Finally people are realizing- it's about time...

I'm going to have to see if I can find those sparerib cutlets around here. My mom (not-veg) seems to really like the fake meat she's tried so far (Tofurky Italian sausage, Melody's turkey seitan, Gardenburger Riblet) and she doesn't miss real meat so much then. Love the toenail polish!

I wish we had vegan spare ribs around here.

It is great that people are finally starting to notice the effects of our diet on the planet.
